350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. 350 PPM—it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.

350.org was founded by U.S. author Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public, and a team of university friends. Together, they ran a campaign in 2007 called Step It Up that organized over 2,000 rallies at iconic places in all 50 states. 350.org is building off of Step It Up's model of creative activism and making it global. They are working to bring awareness to the climate crisis in front of the Copenhagen conference.

As a part of that effort, Salem resident Philip Carver will be walking 350 miles along the Oregon coast and the lower Columbia River. Carver and others will camp or stay with supporters along the way, distributing information, holding local forums, and encouraging the public to act on this issue. They will be in Florence on Sunday, Sept 27, from 3 - 5 pm in the Bromley Room at the library.

The planned arrival in Portland on Oct 24 will coincide with a downtown rally and other "350" activities around the world.

For more information on the Oregon 350 Climate Crisis Walk, contact Carver at (503) 562-9878 or email him at philip.carver@comcast.net. More information about the walk and an itinerary of locations and appearances is available at http://oregonpeaceworks.org/wordpress/?cat=8
