"I don't know why you say Goodbye when I say Hello"

'Hello Goodbye' has to be one of the greatest songs ever, but I'll just stick with hello for now.

Hello, My name is Brian Todd and I'm the co-founder of florenceoregon.net. My family and I moved to Florence from Stevensville, Montana about 12 years ago, after spending a brief period of time in Nevada. We thought Nevada would be a nice change from the cold and snowy winters we experienced in Montana, but we quickly figured out Nevada wasn't the place for us. The scorpions, rattle snakes, black widows and 120 degree dry heat that causes you to see a purple haze when you walk out the door just wasn't too appealing.

Of course, I can't complain too much about Nevada because my family probably never would've considered moving to Florence if we didn't live in Nevada first. After living in the cold for most of my childhood and then living in the desert for less than a year, we began looking for a place with a temperate climate and no poisonous critters. That brought us to Florence. Sure it rains here a lot, but you're usually guaranteed a day or two of semi-sunny weather a week throughout the winter and it's usually more sunny than not in the summer. Florence provided the perfect climate for us and it's relatively small, even though it's grown quite a bit since we moved here.

These days, I'm mostly focused on online marketing for various businesses around Florence. I used to sell health and life insurance in Montana and Nevada, but my family and I decided to jump into online marketing after we moved to Florence. My family and I began online marketing for businesses about 11 years ago and we're proud of what we've accomplished for our clients. Almost all of our clients have been successful with their online ventures and most of them are still our clients today. Believe it or not... Their aren't a lot of people in the online marketing business that can say they've made someone's online marketing venture successful. Just think about all the busts that happened when the dot com bubble popped.

Online marketing is a lot more complex than just putting up a website. You have to get your clients found in the search engines, you have to get their websites linked into other sites that'll drive customers to their business and then you have to get your client to commit to promoting and maintaining an online marketing plan; such as creating e-mail lists, answering e-mails and talking about their business on forums relative to their business.

Online marketing is more than just putting up a website. I could teach a 13 year old kid how to design a website that would put a lot of the other websites I've seen to shame, but that's not good enough to be successful online. Putting up a pretty website or an ugly website without having somebody promote the site is like buying a phone, paying for the service and then not listing it in the phonebook. Great... You have a phone and nobody can get a hold of you because they don't know what your phone number is. Same thing with a website. Great... You have a website and nobody can get a hold of you because they can't find your website. That's what separates us from the rest. We get found by the people that want to find what we're providing or what our clients are providing.

Even though I've been working with my family's business over the years, I've also taken jobs here and there to make extra income and I'll probably take on an extra job or two in the future because I have a boy on the way. This is going to be my first baby experience and I'm very excited about it. My girlfriend is amazing and her two kids are as good as teenagers can be. Personally... I've never heard of a "good teenager" and I think a good teenager would be considered an oxymoron by most parents.

So... Now you know a little about me. I want to thank you for visiting florenceoregon.net and I, especially, want to thank all the business owners and people that are helping make this site and forum work. I appreciate the time you're spending on our site and I greatly appreciate all the visitors that are supporting the local businesses around Florence, which includes our business. I hope everybody here enjoys the forum as much as we enjoy Florence and I look forward to networking with lots of people on this forum.

Have a wonderful day ladies and gentlemen.

You say goodbye and I say Hello... Okay, I'll say goodbye and you say hello.

Thank you for your support. I'm happy to see you in the forum and I'm really happy to get your compliments. We've been promoting Florence for the past ten years and we decided it was time to give local people a way to network with each other.

Personally... I think Florence could be one of the hottest vacation destinations on the West Coast. There’s absolutely no reason for business to drop off as much as it does in the winter. The weather and temperature is absolutely awesome when you compare it to the weather in Montana, Idaho, Washington, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Wyoming, and Canada. Martha's Vineyard attracts quite a few people in the winter because they've promoted themselves as a premier vacation destination and, in my opinion, Florence has twice as much to offer as Lincoln City or even Martha's Vineyard for that matter.

We have the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area; we have fishing, crabbing, and clamming on the Siuslaw River; we have Sweet Creek Falls and lakes all over the place. We have the Heceta lighthouse, Cape Perpetua and the Hobbit Trails just north of us. We have the casino, Old Town and good restaurants around Florence. There are tons of things to do in and around Florence. We just need to put as much focus on the seafood, shopping and nightlife as we do on the outdoor recreation.
